Final VoiceThread for Speaking Class

This week’s VoiceThread is a little different. I explain the directions in the VoiceThread. But you can also review them here:

  1. Go to page 129 in our textbook. Think of activities you like to do in each category. Write one sentence for at least four categories (for a total of at least four sentences).
  2. Go to metronomeonline.com, set it for about 120 bpm, and practice your sentences. And mark the stressed words on your paper.
  3. Record your sentences on this week's VoiceThread. Try recording with the metronome on.*
  4. Listen to the recording to hear your rhythm.
*Note: You do NOT have to record the metronome (the beat), but if you are able to, please try it!

Dialect Maps - VoiceThread Homework #3

Here is homework #3 VoiceThread #3. Our unit is about dialects, which are the different ways people speak a language. Have you ever heard the difference in sounds and words between an American and an Australian? America itself has different dialects. Ohio has at least three different dialects. Kent is in a unique place, because we can go north and hear one accent, go south and hear another, and then go west toward Pennsylvania and hear yet another one.

I have maps of American, Chinese, and Arabic dialects. Please select one or two to comment on. Which dialect is your native language? Try to circle it with VoiceThread's draw feature. What other dialects do you like or don't like? Is there one that many people prefer over another? Why? Can you tell where someone is from when he speaks?

This is our VoiceThread homework this week. Talk about a time in which you had to endure a hardship. Click this link to go to VoiceThread: voicethread.com/share/3160000.
